Friday 6/11/2015 - Lost In Translation, One Bookshelf Done & This Week's Wristwatches.

POSTSCRIPT; the correct grammar is "an historic", not "a historic". I meant to correct that with a pen before I scanned it.

And here's the bookshelf. Once I get a backboard on it, plus a couple of coats of varnish, it should look half decent. I just hope it holds up for the next decade or two;

Have a good weekend!

  1. Nicely productive week! I hope you hear good news on the Rolex, as it doesn't sound like your seller is all that interested in making anything right.. And ooh, that mustard Olivetti again.. mmmm.. (:

    1. The seller was happy to issue me a refund, adding "I don't have one (like yours) currently and could sell it very easily", which just gave me the impression that he was really only thinking of himself. Personally, I don't want to send it back. I'd rather just have it repaired here. I just wish he was a little more honest regarding the authenticity of some parts.

      And the Olivetti did come out looking mustardy, didn't it. Must be the lighting. In natural light, it's a grey-green.

  2. Ahhhh yes... that rain on Thursday. I went for a ride to Fitzroy and only just... JUST got back into the house as the first drops of that storm hit.

    I hate that kind of crap customer service. If it is a business in this era, you'd be throwing your online reputation open to abuse. I really feel sometimes that I should make a video about how to talk to another human from a service point of view. People seem to have NFI these days.

    Nice work on the shelves. Say... that could be good for displaying typewriters. Hmmmmm.....

    Have a better weekend Mr T.

  3. I saw the forecast for you poor guys and gals over east, four seasons worth of rain in one day. Nice bookcase and yep, that Studio 42 certainly looks like a keeper!

  4. Enjoy your week and good luck with the Rolex. Hope there aren't any more surprises. I saw SPECTRE last night (NJ, USA) and don't think you'll be disappointed. I was wearing my old Bond Seamaster.

  5. I think you were right first time with 'a historic'. It's only 'an historic' if the h is silent, and these days very few people pronounce historic with a silent h. Same goes for hotel. The Oxford Guide to English Usage is fine with 'a historic', so that's good enough for me!

  6. Can't argue with The Oxford Guide. 'A historic' it is! Thanks, EB!
