The Other Typospherian With The Loose Spring On His Olivetti Studio 42- Could This Be The Answer?

Further to my previous post about Davide's dilemma with his Studio 42, I thought I'd take a look at my own Olivetti Studio to see if I could be of help.

This tiny little spring...

...seems to provide that tension that you feel when you lift up the paper bail bar that rests against the platen when you type.

Who would have guessed?

I hope this is of some help to you, Davide.

    1. I've wanted a SM300 for about five years and scoured eBay for that long, looking at poor quality fakes and water-damaged originals before I bought this one that was made up from new-old-stock parts. I should've known you'd notice it, ZetiX. For someone who doesn't actually dive, I have a lot of dive watches.

    2. Yeah - I'm scared of fakes too. And I have only one diver's watch - nevertheless I don't dive either :D

So, my guess turned out to be right! http://theresnothingtosay.blogspot.it/2013/09/three-new-typers.html?showComment=1380170277438#c2873793778376459492

The bad news is that my studio lacks the hook that links the paper bail to the spring.
It may even be lying detached somewhere into the chassis of the typewriter.
Anyway, I'll try to do something homemade, if I can, and i'll surely let you know about the results.

Have a good night and... keep typing!

  4. Hi, I just found this conversation and I have the same missing hook on my Studio 42... It would be great if someone could make a picture of this hook and measure it, so I can build something similar. Thank you!
